Understand what the number measures
PSF means pounds per square foot: it describes pressure acting on the door, rather than wind speed. Wind speed is one input to a project pressure calculation, alongside building and site factors. A product rating cannot be turned into a single universal MPH promise. Ask who establishes the required positive and negative pressures for the actual opening.
Compare the offered assembly
A manufacturer may offer several configurations under one collection name. The proposed size, glazing, reinforcement and installation details need to correspond to the supplied documentation. A label from a different product or opening is not a substitute for that match.
Keep comparisons on the same basis
When comparing estimates, request the same project requirements and configuration from each bidder. If one proposal gives only an MPH headline, ask for the actual pressure documentation. Keep impact resistance, water resistance and operating convenience as separate questions rather than combining them into one storm-proof claim.
Your questions
Can I convert a product’s PSF rating to one universal wind speed?
No. The relationship depends on the building and site conditions.
Does a wind rating prove the door is impact resistant?
No. Confirm the relevant impact documentation separately when it applies.
